Wireless solutions are provided using secure high specification products (HP ProCurve & Proxim), following planning for coverage and performance, with consideration to legacy products such as laptops and PDAs and new technology that enhances the users’ experience, with varied applications such as mobile ICT Suites (laptop trolleys) and Electronic Registration.

Following the acquisition by HP, the Colubris wireless system is now part of the ProCurve portfolio and Topological Limited has selected the MSM access controllers as these support intelligent Access Points (APs), optimising flexibility whilst also minimising management time. The central controller also manages guest/visitor access using hotspot technology and this especially beneficial for high schools and colleges, as it establishes a connection to pupil’s own work via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), without needing to provide access to the main domain. For smaller systems individual APs from HP or Proxim deliver a reliable service and these are configured to deliver the coverage and security required by the client.

Surveys are undertaken to confirm coverage, with a spectrum analyser used to check for interference from other technologies (cordless keyboards and Bluetooth) or other items such as alarm sensors and fire detectors. To deliver the performance throughout the site, Topological Limited utilises extensive experience of network systems, with the design of the overall system including managed switch functionality such as Power over Ethernet (PoE) and Virtual LANs (VLANs). For new clients, the infrastructure is audited to establish the perceived condition of the infrastructure.

Completed systems are documented with a schematic or marked site plans that illustrates the positions of the APs, with other information provided including configuration information, presented on a spreadsheet.
