Hotspot technology is now becoming more popular and it is finding new applications in educational networks.

The HP ProCurve (Colubris) MSM multi-service controllers have integrated hotspot technology and this is ideal for schools that wish to allow their pupils to utilise their own laptops or mobile devices, but do not want them to directly access the school’s own network. This works as part of a wireless solution that delivers conventional wireless access (using 802.11 a/b/g/n Access Points) to the domain using the school’s own devices.

The “guest” solution allows authorised access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) via the broadband internet connection, thus ensuring no virus or security issues whilst delivering flexibility for the students without the need to re-configure their devices.
